Paula Bronstein

Paula Bronstein is an American photojournalist and one of the leading women in the field, with a career spanning more than three decades. She uses her work to raise awareness of underreported stories in conflict zones and to reveal the unseen casualties of war.

After fifteen years as a staff photographer for several American newspapers, she moved to Asia in the late 1990s and worked as a senior staff photographer for Getty Images from 2002 to 2013. She spent some twenty years documenting life in Afghanistan, work collected in her acclaimed book Afghanistan: Between Hope and Fear. She now works freelance, and her pictures have appeared in nearly every major international publication.

In Ukraine she has focused on elderly people, among the most vulnerable victims of the war. Ukraine: The Consequences of War was shown at House of Lucie Budapest.
