Manoocher Deghati

Manoocher Deghati is an award-winning photojournalist whose career spans half a century of history, conflict and humanity. Born in Iran, he began photographing during the Iranian Revolution in 1979 and went on to cover the Iran–Iraq War and conflicts and social issues around the world.

Over the years he has worked with Sipa, Black Star, AFP, the United Nations and the Associated Press, and his photographs have appeared in National Geographic, TIME, Life, Newsweek and GEO. Throughout, his work keeps the human experience at its centre, alongside the major events he has witnessed.

His retrospective book EYEWITNESS, curated by former National Geographic Director of Photography Sarah Leen and published by FotoEvidence, brings together 130 photographs from his archive with a novelised biography by Ursula Janssen. The exhibition of the same name opened at House of Lucie Budapest in October 2026.
